Peggy Jo Stephens Lemons, a beloved figure and cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 3, 2026, in Portland, Tennessee, at the age of 83. Born May 28, 1942, in Gallatin, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Jessie Stephens and Mable Calvert Denney. Peggy dedicated over 40 years of her life to her career at Walmart before enjoying a well-deserved retirement.

Peggy will be remembered not only for her professional dedication but also for her warm, loving spirit. A wonderful cook, she had a special talent for bringing family and friends together around the table. Her caring nature was evident to all who knew her, as she consistently prioritized the well-being of others, often taking in many children that were not her own. This generosity of heart left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to be embraced by her kindness.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather B.L. Denney; sister Ruby Sexton; grandson Brad Floyd; great grandson Brayden Floyd; and great great grandson Tristan Glover.

Peggy is survived by her children Sheila Lemons, Tim (Beth) Lemons, Donna (Bill) Jenkins, and Rex Lemons; along with her grandchildren Matthew Glover, Derrick Glover, Heather (Matt) Lynn, Ryan (Martha) Lemons, Paige Lemons, Faith (Craig) Dodd, David (Marcia) Floyd, Josh (Jessica) Jenkins, Jacob Jenkins, Seth Lemons, Chelsea Jackson, and Leslie Sisco. She is also the proud great-grandmother of Cassidy Glover Theal, Jayden Glover, Preston Lemons, Paisley Lemons, Myah Grace Clay, Holden Dodd, Haven Dodd, Liz Floyd, Cash Jenkins, Dane Jenkins, Rhett Lemons, Carter Jackson, Gabby Crass, Dayton Floyd, and Gentry Floyd. Peggy is further survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will deeply miss her.

Her family invites anyone to join in celebrating her life during visitation hours at Alexander Funeral Home & Cremation Center located at 584 Nashville Pike, Gallatin, Tennessee, on Wednesday, January 7, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again on Thursday, January 8, from 10:00 AM until the funeral service officiated by Brother Charles Anderson starting at 2:00 PM. Following the service, Peggy will be laid to rest at Crestview Memory Gardens at 1623 HWY 109 N, Gallatin, Tennessee. Pallbearers will be Ryan Lemons, Seth Lemons, Derrick Glover, Josh Jenkins, Matthew Glover, and David Floyd. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Lemons and Rex Lemons.

Donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Peggy will be remembered for her loving nature, generous spirit, and the countless lives she touched. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew her.
