Peggy McGrath Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 4, 2025.
Peggy Louise (Heil) McGrath, age 76 of Northfield, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at Three Links Care Center in Northfield. Peggy was born on October 15, 1948 in Northfield, the daughter of Frederick and Lorraine (Reamer) Heil. Peggy attended Northfield High School and went on to attend Mankato State College in her pursuit of becoming a nurse. Peggy's nursing career took her many places including: St. Lucas Healthcare Community of Faribault, Cannon Falls Hospital, Northfield Hospital and Three Links Care Center.

Peggy also enjoyed a career as a realtor in Northfield.

Peggy met life's challenges with humor and wit. She appreciated the motto, "live and let live." One of her favorite hobbies was gardening and she created beautiful flowery landscapes with winding limestone paths. She also loved reading, particularly poetry and books about history. Music was a passion and she was a talented pianist.

Peggy was extremely compassionate towards all animals, and many found their way to her over the years. From dogs, to birds, to cats, and particularly her beloved cat, Greta.

The biggest joy and accomplishment of her life was being a loving mother and grandmother. She often said becoming a mother was the greatest thing she ever did.

She will be remembered and deeply missed.

Peggy is survived by her children, Anya McGrath, and Andrew (Gretchen) Heil; grandchildren, Sydney, Noah, Max and Everson; great-granddaughter, Mabel; siblings, Ann Therese, Gary, Michael, and Nancy; as well as her nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Lorraine; and sister, Janine Heil.
