Fannie "Pennae" McLean, a beacon of kindness and friendliness, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025, at the age of 92 in Canton, Michigan. Born on October 6, 1932, in Columbia, Kentucky, Pennae was a woman of great faith and warmth, whose life was a testament to her strong values and dedication to her family and community.
Pennae was the cherished matriarch of a large and loving family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eugene, who passed away in 1996. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Glynda "Gale" Forster; her sons, Robert "Troy" McLean (his wife Samantha Milo), Bryon McLean (his wife Karen), and Byron Miertle (his wife Leslie). Pennae was also the proud sister to Betty Parnell, her twin brother-Finis Curry, Carl Curry (his wife Carolyn), Calvin Curry, and she was predeceased by her siblings Maurice Curry, Maze Curry, Jessie Parnell, Robert Curry, and Carol Strange. Her legacy continues through her eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish her memory and the love she bestowed upon them.
Pennae's journey through life was marked by her commitment to education and her community. She obtained her associate's degree in accounting, a field in which she excelled and found great satisfaction. Pennae's work ethic was admirable, and she took pride in her role at the Oxford Park Towers Residents Administration Office in
Berkley, Michigan, where she continued to contribute her skills well into her 80s.
A resident of Berkley since 1973, Pennae was an integral part of her local community. She was a long-time member of the Madison Heights Fellowship Baptist Church, where she nurtured her faith and formed lasting friendships. Her involvement with the Berkley Historical Society as a member and volunteer reflected her love for history and her dedication to preserving the stories of her beloved town.
Pennae's life was characterized by her faith-filled spirit. She approached every day with a sense of purpose and a smile that could light up a room. Her kindness was felt by all who had the pleasure of knowing her, and her friendly demeanor made her a cherished friend and neighbor. Pennae's unwavering positivity and her ability to see the good in people and situations were sources of inspiration to her family and all who knew her.
As we bid farewell to Pennae, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, service, and joy. Her impact on the lives she touched is immeasurable, and her memory will be treasured in the hearts of those who loved her. Pennae's journey on this earth may have come to an end, but her spirit will continue to guide and comfort us as we navigate the path ahead without her physical presence.
Pennae's family takes comfort in knowing that she lived a full and meaningful life, surrounded by those she loved and who loved her in return. As we mourn her passing, we also rejoice in the knowledge that her legacy of kindness, faith, and community service will live on through the generations.
Viewing and visitation will be 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM Sunday, April 13, 2025, at the Sawyer-Fuller Funeral Home, 2125 Twelve Mile Road,
Berkley, MI. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, April 14, 2025, at the funeral home with visiting beginning at 10:00 AM. Entombment Committal will follow at Roseland Park Cemetery, Berkley.
