Pennie Sue (Mitchell) Simmons, passed away on Wednesday (November 19, 2025 in Gowanda rehab and nursing center surrounded by the love of family after a lengthy illness. She was born March 14, 1960 to Leroy Mitchell and Mabel Hogle in Salamanca, NY.
She loved her grandchildren, she loved seeing them excel and enjoying their favorite activities. She was very proud of them.
She enjoyed many forms of crafting: crocheting, jewelry making, knitting and quilting. She was a blue ribbon winner at the Cattaraugus County fair for many beautiful crochet projects.
She loved the Lord and attended many churches in the area, most recently steamburg church. When she was younger she enjoyed teaching Sunday school.
Pennie spent her life a servant to others. She was an LPN and then director of nurses in a range of nursing homes when her children were younger but then started a daycare in her home when her children were teenagers to be home with them. Miss Pennie loved her daycare kids and had fond memories of them that she would often recall with her family. She also was a substitute nurse at Randolph central school and worked in the cafeteria until she was deemed disabled.
She enjoyed spending time with her dear friend Beverly. She enjoyed going to lunch with her friends and making them dinner.
Her children: Angela (Ryan) Sluga of Randolph, Margaret (Jamin) Robbins of Falconer, NY, Billy (Kacy) Storey of Sheffield, PA, Malissa (Ray) Eastman of Pennsylvania. Loving sisters: Sylvia (Tim) Bradford, Sharon (Ray) Miller, Dorthy McCraken. Grandkids: Alanna, Raychel, Erinn, Taige, Morgan, Rayne. Beloved cat: Trixie. Several nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents Leroy Mitchell and Mabel Brown. Also deceased are sisters: Sandy Scott, Linda Brown, and Betty Hogle.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 22, 2025 at the Valley View Baptist Church in Little Valley, NY. Pastor Robert Cook will officiate. Inurnment will be held later in the Crawford Cemetery in Salamanca.
Arrangements are entrusted to the care of the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church Street, Randolph.
