Pennie Wood Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 1, 2025.
From her loving husband, with a broken heart, I need to announce the passing of my dear wife Pennie Lou Wood. Pennie was a long-time resident of Canaan, NY. Through her business, Pennie Wood Bookkeeping, she was a Free-Lance Bookkeeper for a variety of businesses, LLC's and private citizens. Pennie Wood Bookkeeping spanned 20 years mostly in Southern Berkshire and Columbia Counties.

Pennie and I met on a blind date in 1989. After 35 years of marriage, she passed away in my arms on Sunday morning, September 28, 2025, after a lengthy illness. This woman truly was the light and foundation of those years, and any words I find would never give her the acknowledgment she deserves. Pennie lived through adversity, pain and health struggles and would bounce back to workable health time after time to be there for her family and clients. I will miss her sharp tongue, gentle touch and loving nature for the rest of my days.

Pennie was the youngest daughter of the late Richard and Cora Hatch of Canaan, NY. She was also pre-deceased by her siblings Sandra Hatch Koury of Lenox, MA and Mark Hatch of Chatham, NY. She is survived by her husband Frank Wood of Canaan, NY; son Jeremy, daughter-in-law Jessica and grandson Hayden Gould of Middletown, CT; sister Shirley Sylvia and three generations in Eastern MA, and brothers Kim Roy Hatch of Canaan, NY and Terry and Annie Hatch and two generations in Hoosick Falls, NY.

Pennie will be laid to rest next to her family members in a private setting with no services or calling hours.

Pennie had such a loving and affectionate way of dealing with people yet as Frank says a sharp tongue when she had to set someone straight but in a nice way, just the blunt facts (I am smiling remembering some of her comments and stories as we worked together for approximately 10-15 years). She was tried and true and told it like it was always with a smile. She was passionate about her work, friends, clients and family and was always there. She would even set me straight once in a while. Me and my Associates at our CPA firm Borneman & Associates CPA PC sooo enjoyed working with Pennie, she was great at what she did (truly took an interest) and we referred her every chance we got. I will miss her calling me JimBob like we were from the Walton Family (for those old enough to have watched that old TV show) but most of all I will just miss her for so many reasons, forever in our hearts and minds and we shall not forget you Pennie. RIP PLW

Pennie was my dear friend. We met years ago and became fast friends, we treasured most the times taking road trips, just get in the car and go.
She loved her wildlife that frequented her yard. Turkeys all sorts of wild birds, deer, rabbits and an occasional bear. She painted a lot of bird houses and feeders that her husband brought home.
Pennie was very devoted to her family and friends and her clients. She would go above and beyond for all of us.
