Penny Bison Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brewer & Sons Funeral Homes - Brooksville Chapel on Dec. 6, 2024.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce Penny Sullivan Bison, 55, of Brooksville, Florida passed away unexpectedly on December 3, 2024. A beloved mom, "GeGe," sister, friend, and "Ms. Penny" as so many knew her. She will be remembered for her passion, determination, kindness, and selfless help to others.
Penny was born August 25, 1969 in St. Petersburg, Florida the fifth of six children. When she was four years old, her family moved to Brooksville where she spent the remainder of her life. She attended school at Eastside Elementary, Parrot Jr. High, and graduated from Hernando High School. Penny was known for her boundless energy and had a great love for dance - beginning lessons at very young age, at Audrey Winters Dance Studio. She had a fun, bubbly personality and would entertain her family with self created song and dance. She had a gift for planning events from birthdays to slumber parties with meticulous attention to details. She was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and performed solos at church and in the community.
Penny had many notable accomplishments throughout her life. Obtaining a Doctorate in Speech Language Pathology, creating an internationally recognized program for those with dyslexia (Reading in Rhythm), opening her own school (entiretyK12) to allow students a safe space to learn and grow according to their own individual needs. She also enjoyed traveling to many beautiful places both near and far. Although all of these things are amazing feats, Penny was most proud of being a wonderful mother to her only son, Zachary Sullivan, as well as being an incredible "GeGe" to her three grandchildren Sawyer, Riverleigh, and Campton Sullivan.
Penny had so much passion and love for those close to her. She left a lasting impression on anyone she met. She leaves behind a legacy of caring for others, loving her family well, and never backing down from a challenge.
Penny is survived by her son, Zachary (Allison) Sullivan, her grandchildren Sawyer, Riverleigh, and Campton Sullivan. Her sister Shawnda Ownbey Welker and her husband, Gordon, brothers Shane, David, and Rick Ownbey. She is preceded in death by her parents Buck and Penny Ownbey, brother Scott Ownbey, and granddaughter Lainey Sullivan.
Penny is loved dearly and missed immensely. We will always remember her as Bison Strong.
