Penny P Cockmon, 64, of Little Rock, AR went to be with her beloved mother and father on August 6, 2022. She was born on September 7, 1958, in Harrisburg, PA to Lutellus and Margaret Painter. She married David Michael Cockmon on April 28, 1984. They had three beautiful children; Jennifer Minyard, Matthew Cockmon, Katherine Stehle; and two grandchildren, Sawyer and Lucas .
Penny was an Army brat through and through. Her and her family traveled all over while her father was in the Army; Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Germany, and finally Tennessee. She graduated from Hendersonville High school in 1976. During school Penny would excel in her grades and many school activities. She was a people person and got along with everyone. After high school she attended Volunteer State Community College until 1978 then transferred to Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN. She graduated from MTU in May of 1981 with a degree in Psychology and Secondary Education. During college Penny worked at Opry Land in Nashville, TN. She worked in a variety of positions while there including candle maker and dark room operator. Eventually working her way up to supervisor. After college she worked as a therapist and recreation leader at the Arkansas State Hospital for 25 years, retiring in 2007.
It was during her time at the State hospital that Penny met her loving and caring husband David. During retirement she enjoyed traveling to see family across the United States and vacationing in the Great Smokey Mountains. Penny loved collecting antiques and furniture. Her truest passions in life were her family and friends whom she loved dearly. She was quick to help anyone in need and she truly had a heart of gold. She touched many lives and will be sorely missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents Lutellus LeRoy Painter (father) and Margaret Grace Painter (mother). Remaining to celebrate her memory are her husband of 38 years, David Michael Cockmon; daughters, Jennifer (Brad) Minyard [Sawyer and Lucas], Kaite (Curtis) Stehle, and son, Matthew Cockmon; sisters, Sherry (Mickey) King, Debbie Hedgepath; and brother Scott Painter; and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.
There will be two services for Penny; one will be held in Arkansas at the Smith Little Rock Funeral Home off Barrow and I-630 in Little Rock, AR on Thursday August 11, 2022. Visitation will be held at 9:00 am, with a service to follow at 10:00am. Service will be presided over by Father Greg Luyet. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022 2:00pm at the Morganton Cemetery in Greenback, TN.
