Penny Pickrel Obituary
Penny loved her family and her community. She always cherished the time on her front porch watching and photographing the birds and wildlife. She was always proud of her photo being selected and published by National Geographic. Penny cared deeply for Cancer Care of Hood County and volunteered annually. Penny enjoyed going to auctions and perfected the art of bidding to win much to the chagrin of Jeff. Her favorite hobby however was family genealogy. Penny spent years tracking her family history back to the 15th century and loved helping others who shared the same passion. Penny loved to help friends and neighbors with their projects and always tried to do the right thing.
Penny was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Ginger Gillis, her brothers Robert Fowler and Kenneth Fowler, and a sister Diana Fowler.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Jeff Pickrel; son Joshua Gillis; daughter Jessica Gillis; grandson Gavyn Gillis; brother Guy Gillis and wife Jaycon; sister Lorrie McClain and husband James; nephews Wesley Teets and Christian McClain; her mother-in-law Earlene Bullock and husband Kent as well as several cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held at 11am. Saturday, January 3rd, 2026, at the First United Methodist Church of Granbury, 301 Loop 567 & Weatherford Hwy. 76048 with visitation at the church from 10am -11am prior to the services. Burial will follow at the Friendship Cemetery in Tolar.
