Mrs. Penny Jean Speary, 63, of Lopez, PA, passed away at home on early Friday morning, February 2, 2024, with her husband Sheldon at her side.

 

Penny was born on March 2, 1960, in Towanda, PA, a daughter of C. Emily Hoover Benjamin and the late Jan Arland Benjamin.

 

She graduated from Sullivan County High School, a member of the class of 1978.

 

Penny worked for over 35 years as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Highlands Care Center in Laporte. She married Sheldon N. Speary on April 13, 2011.

 

She enjoyed playing in the Birch Creek Dart and Ring Toss leagues. She was a former member of the McDermott Post 452 American Legion Auxiliary. Penny also loved to go camping and take road trips.  She was most happy spending time  with her family and friends and loved being outside in the sun swimming with her dog Bella by her side.  Penny was deeply loved and will be missed by all that knew her.

She is also survived by several cousins and her faithful and beloved dog Bella. 

 

Besides her father, she was predeceased by uncles: Earl Benjamin, Joseph Tabor, Victor Stavisky, Thomas Hoover, Lewis Crawford Sr, and James Crawford and aunts: Mary Louise Stavisky, Eva Hoover, Josephine Benjamin Pelot, Arvilla Crawford, and Lela Crawford. 
 

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 2:00 PM in the Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA, with the Rev. Robert W. Brown, officiating. 

 

Family and friends may call on Saturday, February 10, 2024, from 1:00 PM until the start of the service at 2:00 PM in the Homer Funeral Home, Dushore, PA.

 

There will be a pass in review by members of the Proud Boys Club at the beginning of the service to honor Penny. 

 

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, PA 18614

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Homer Funeral Home, PO Box 1, Dushore, PA, to help offset funeral expenses.
