Penny Anita Utt

Penny Anita Spikes Utt, 54, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at UNC Medical Center.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 9, 2026, at 3:00 PM in Evergreen Memorial Estates in Grifton. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 8, 2026, from 3:00-5:00 PM at Farmer Funeral Service in Ayden.

A lifelong resident of Pitt County, Penny was born to Robert and Mary Register Spikes. She was a graduate of Ayden-Grifton High School and Lenoir Community College. She worked as a Nurse for a number of years.

Penny will be remembered for her love of family and helping others. She had an outgoing nature, was very friendly and never met a stranger. Penny's outlook was always positive, she encouraged others, and also had a great sense of humor. Lastly, she will be forever remembered for her love of animals. A loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Penny will be greatly missed by the many who knew and loved her.

Penny was preceded in death by her father, Robert Franklin "Bobby" Spikes. She is survived by her daughter, Cheyenne Utt;

son, Santanna Tyson; grandchildren, Mary Lefavi, Ka'son Tyson and Enzzi Tyson; mother, Mary Register Spikes; sisters, Terry Darden, Madeline Myers, Donna Knettler and Sonnya Garland; and her beloved family pets, Scoobie and Bonita.
