Penny Ann "Mama" VanDenburgh 78 of Conway, SC peacefully passed on February 16, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.
Penny was born in Cooperstown, NY to the late Gerald "Bud" and Florence Hext. Spending her early years in Schuyler Lake, NY. After graduating from Richfield Springs Central School, she later spent many years in Herkimer NY before lastly residing in Conway SC.
One of Mama's favorite places to visit was Panther Mountain. She visited and spoke of it often. She was an avid camper, loved a good cookout, attended her Children's and grandchildren's sporting events, and just spending time with family, they meant the world to her. One thing you could always count on with our sweet mama is once the music started, you could not keep her down. She loved to dance, no matter what type of music it was.
Penny's greatest joy in life was her Grandchildren, she never missed an event in any of their lives. They truly owned her heart, and she was so very proud of them, letting everyone know just how much.
On April 28, 1990, Penny was united in marriage to George "Bucky" VanDenburgh, until his passing in 2021.
Aside from her parents and husband, Penny was preceded in death by her brother Jim Hext, Brother and sister-in-law Gregory and Marilyn Hext.
Left to cherish her memory are her Children, Daughter Janice and husband Mike Fahy of East Herkimer, NY, and Son Kenny and husband Brad of Conway, SC with whom she resided for the past 4 years. Grandchildren, Mike and wife Taylor Fahy, Ryan Fahy and fiancé Lindsey Parese, Ashley Fahy and fiancé Stephen Scialdo. She also leaves a great-grandson, Caden Fahy. Also Surviving are her brother Gerald "Manny" and wife Sharon Hext, sisters, Sue Winne, Starr Madaras, and Florence and husband Richard Thompson. Also leaving behind her feline companion Tye.
The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Shannon Willis, who came into their lives as an aide for Mama and instantly became family. She is known as Mama's "angel on earth."
We would also like to sincerely thank Tami and Sondra who have always been there when needed and always will be. They give meaning to "friends are the family we chose."
Lastly, we would love to thank We Care Home Care and Heartland Hospice for their love and compassion shown to Penny over the past few years especially "the spicy nurse" Kim.
Calling Hours will be on Thursday, February 20, 2025, from 12:30 P.M. – 2 P.M. at the funeral home located at 4947 Highway 17 Bypass South, Myrtle Beach. There will be a celebration of life immediately following at the home of her son at 1125 Elkford Drive, Conway SC.
