Percy P. Davis, age 84, of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025, in Cherry Hill, NJ.
Percy, son of the late Thelma Davis, was born on January 20, 1941 in Baltimore, MD. Born with an eye for style and a passion for life, Percy was known by all who knew him as a true gentleman - a dapper dresser with an easy smile and a generous heart. He loved golfing, collecting exotic cars, and sharing stories that reflected his zest for life and his appreciation for the finer things.
Percy was a proud alumnus of Coppin State University in Baltimore, Maryland, where he earned both his Bachelor of Science and Master's degrees in Education. His strong work ethic and leadership guided him through a long and successful career with IBM, where he earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike.
After retiring from IBM, Percy devoted much of his time to giving back through numerous clubs, civic organizations, and nonprofits. Among these, the Philadelphia Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) held a special place in his heart. Founded by the late Civil Rights leader, Reverend Dr. Leon H. Sullivan, the organization's mission deeply resonated with Percy. A close friend of Reverend Sullivan, Percy served on the OIC Board of Directors for more than 25 years, many of those as Chairman of the Board. Through his dedicated leadership, he helped guide programs that empowered tens of thousands of Philadelphians to build better lives through education and employment training.
Percy was united in marriage to Gail B. McCormick and they had one son, the late Gary B. Davis. Percy was a devoted family man who found great joy in sharing his time with his son and grandson. He coached both of them in baseball, teaching them not only the fundamentals of the game but also the values of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship. His impact on young people extended far beyond his family-Percy gave back to his community by coaching at-risk youth, offering them guidance, structure, and encouragement.
Percy cherished the many friendships he built throughout his life. He was blessed with a close circle of longtime friends, Annette Bedford, Van Eaton, Carl Brown, Will Heyward, William Gwynn, Harold Dett, Willard Wright, Tom McKinney, and William Woods. Percy's friends knew him as loyal, kindhearted, and always ready with a good story or a helping hand. Those friendships were a constant source of joy and support, reflecting the warmth and generosity that defined who he was. Percy held a deep fondness for Dana, his grandson's mother. To him, Dana wasn't just his grandson's mother; she was like the daughter he never had.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted spouse, Gail Davis; beloved grandson, Gary Davis-Brown; loving sister, Doris Hatcher; nephews Vincent Hatcher, Brian Hatcher, Darryl Lee (Melissa), Antonio Curtis, Javonn Curtis, Russell Harrison, Russell Harrison (Nicole), Darryl Lee, Jr., Brandon Little, Bryce Little, Quintin Merritt, Jerrell Marcus, and Jaden Marcus; nieces Cheryl Harrison, Tanya Curtis, Tamara Little (James), Cherelle Harrison, Tanaya Marcus and Giovanna Little, Tamiara Thompson, Ryleigh Thompson, Radikal Lee, along with a host of other relatives and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.
Percy's warmth, wisdom, and impeccable sense of style will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation on Saturday, November 22nd from 3:00-4:00 PM at the Bradley Funeral Home 601 Rt. 73 South at Evesham Road, Marlton NJ where a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4:00 PM.
