Percy McGill was born in Ellisville, Mississippi in 1925 to James and Armissie (Howze) McGill. After moving to Ann Arbor, Michigan Percy met and married his beloved wife, Elizabeth McGill. They were married for 46 years before her passing in 2008.
Known as the Barbeque King of Ann Arbor, it was not unusual to find Percy cooking on his hand-built stone grill in his backyard where you would find half of the population of Ann Arbor enjoying his famous ribs. Always willing to lend a helping hand, Percy was both a good brother, brother-in-law, and neighbor throughout the years that he lived in Ann Arbor.
A dedicated employee of Ford Motor Company for over 46 years, Percy received The Excellence in Attendance award upon his retirement. Over the course of his employment with Ford, he never missed a single day of work and was never late.
A faithful son, Percy returned to his home in Tiawana, Mississippi where he refurbished his mother's home. This included adding plumbing, electricity, running phone lines for service, and completing much needed repairs and renovations.
A loving husband and father, Percy, along with his wife, Elizabeth, raised four children: Ronald Benard McGill and James Al Coleman, both of whom preceded him in death; and two daughters, Kathy Diane Holbrook (Felix) and Cheryl Lynette McGill. An amazing father who owned two companies in addition to working for Ford, he was an excellent provider who loved and cherished his family. Percy also leaves to morn his passing three sisters, a brother, nine grandchildren and a host of great-and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Living to see four generations of descendants, Percy McGill is a well-beloved patriarch who exemplifies the life of a good man. We who remain will honor his memory for the rest of our lives and throughout the future generations.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 14, 2024 at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10:00 am at Nie Family Funeral Home - Carpenter Chapel, 2400 Carpenter Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48108. Burial will follow at United Memorial Gardens of Plymouth, Michigan.
