Perry Lee Buchanan, went to be with the Lord on October 10, 2023 after a long battle with diabetes with his loving family by his side. He was 74 years old. Perry’s compassionate nature and dedication to helping others defined his life and left an indelible mark on those who knew him.
Born on August 8, 1949 in Haywood County, Perry was the son of Roy Buchanan and Josephine Cloer Buchanan. He began working at Waynesville Pharmacy in high school and later took over ownership with his two daughters, Kim Bowen and Kristy Thompson.
Perry's tenure at Waynesville Pharmacy spanned an impressive 59 years, during which he became a trusted and respected figure among both his colleagues and customers. His commitment to providing exceptional care and personalized service endeared him to many, making him a beloved member of the Waynesville healthcare community.
Beyond his professional achievements, Perry had a zest for life that touched all those around him. He loved being "Grandy" and spending time with his grandkids. He cultivated many hobbies that brought him joy throughout the years. Notably, he developed a deep passion for fishing in Alaska, which he indulged in for more than three decades. Perry also found solace on the snowy slopes as an avid snow skier. His goal in life was to take care of his family and watch his grandkids grow into adults. However, above all else, his family held the most cherished place in his heart.
Perry was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Peggy Rathbone Buchanan in 2008 and his sister, Nancy Hughey. His memory will be forever cherished by his surviving family members: two daughters, Kim Bowen (Kevin) and Kristy Thompson (Greg); three grandchildren, Cody Thompson, Chloe Thompson, and Kamea Bowen; his special partner of 15 years, Jackie Netherton; as well as several close extended family members and his beloved grand dogs.
A memorial gathering to honor Perry's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Reverend Scotty Patrick officiating the services with entombment to follow.
In lieu of flowers, Perry's wishes were to have memorials made to a charity of your choice.
