Perry Ernest Ward, affectionately known as Ernest, was born on March 27, 1934, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He departed this life on August 27, 2025, at his home in St. Peters, Missouri, surrounded by his beloved family.
Ernest had a rich and varied career that spanned over three decades. He dedicated more than 30 years of service to Kroger Bakery, where his skill and commitment made him a valued employee. Prior to his time there, he spent many years as a cattle rancher and farmer in Iowa, which showcased his deep connection to the land and his work ethic.
Throughout his life, Ernest held strong beliefs and had a profound faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He was an active member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church in St. Charles, Missouri, where his church community played a vital role in his life.
A man of many passions, Ernest found joy in the great outdoors. He delighted in hunting, particularly for deer and rabbits, and cherished the quiet moments spent fishing. His love for animals was evident through his fondness for his Beagles, who were more than pets—they were cherished companions.
Family was at the heart of Ernest’s life. He was incredibly proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, finding immense joy in their accomplishments and lives. He is survived by his daughters, Karen (Lloyd) Holley and Nancy (Scott) Bjorseth, and grandchildren, Jessica (Michael) Griffon, Crystal Burke, Ashley Mares, Timothy Holley, and Alex Dirkers. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, including Cora Griffon, Gavin Griffon, Liam Griffon, Max Griffon, Wyatt Burke, Austin Burke, Reilly (Phil) Ivie, Morelia Mares, Jose Mares, Emiliano Mares, Francisco Mares, Joaquin Mares, Lloyd Mares, and Eli Holley.
Ernest was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Shirley Ward; his son, Cameron Ward; grandson, Garrett Bjorseth; father, Jasper Perry Ward; mother, Bertha Irene Ward; sister, Gladys (Wyman) Alliston; and brothers, Walker Ward, Carl (Marvie) Ward, and Joe Ward.
His visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home in St. Peters, Missouri, on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM, followed by a funeral service on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Following funeral services he will be laid to rest in St. Charles Memorial Gardens.
Ernest leaves behind a profound legacy of love, faith, and dedication that will be cherished by all who knew him. His memory will forever resonate in the hearts of his family and friends.
