With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the passing of Pervis Eugene "Gene" Simmons, age 75, of Milledgeville, Georgia, who departed this life peacefully on Monday, August 25th, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family.

Born in Maplesville, Alabama, on February 8th, 1950, to Purvis Talmadge Atchison and Rose Marie Atchison. Gene was the second of five children and at the age of eight, he and his older brother, Talmadge Melton, were lovingly adopted by Hugh and Jimmie Simmons, who raised them with unwavering devotion and care. Gene graduated from Marshall High School and pursued further studies at Stephen F. Austin University. On January 4th, 1980, he married the love of his life, Judy, and embraced her children as his own, becoming a devoted husband and father whose love and guidance shaped generations. A man of quiet strength and enduring warmth, Gene found joy in the simple pleasures of life, hunting deer and turkey with his closest friends Terry Neal and Ed Jones, cheering on the Braves from his favorite chair, and sharing laughter and stories with those he held dear. His legacy is one of love, hard work, and unforgettable moments that will echo in the hearts of all who knew him.

Gene is survived by his cherished wife of 45 years, Judy Simmons; his children, Michael Carroll (Morgan), Nancy De la Cruz (Enrique), and Amanda Hall (Darrel); and his adored grandchildren, Tyler Carroll, Ava Carroll, Bailey De la Cruz, Sara Hall, Corbin Hall, and Colt Hall. He is also survived by his brothers, Philip Simmons (Sue), Melton Simmons, and Ricky Roark; his sister, Annette McClendon; and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and treasured friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Jimmie Simmons, and his sister, Kathy Harris.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of Gene's life on Friday, August 29th, 2025. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at Gray Memorial Chapel and Crematory, 4378 Gray Highway, Gray, Georgia 31032, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2:00 pm.

Gray Memorial Chapel is honored to be entrusted with the care of the Simmons family. Condolences and cherished memories may be shared at graymemorialchapel.com.

Though Gene's physical presence has left us, his spirit remains woven into the lives he touched. May we carry forward his love, his laughter, and the lessons he taught us through the way he lived-with heart, humility, and joy.
