Peter John Bergman

Peter J. Bergman, 87, of Plymouth Meeting, PA went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 16, 2022. He died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Peter was the devoted husband of Carol (Hondros) Bergman and together they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Peter will be remembered as a self-sacrificing, gentle, and strong man of God that had a passion for his family. Although he battled through many illnesses, they were fought without complaint. He loved sharing memories of his youth in detail over a game of cards or in conversations around the dinner table. Peter loved the arts, could often be heard singing old time show tunes, and shared good laughs especially in the presence of family. Peter was born in Berlin, Germany in 1934, to Karl and Gerda Bergman. He was predeceased by his older brother Dieter and younger sister Evelyn. Peter came to Philadelphia with his family after escaping Nazi Germany at the young age of four. As a young adult, he rowed for the Fairmount Rowing Club, competing in double scull. While serving in the Army Corp of Engineers, Peter discovered his love for design and problem solving. He cultivated these new-found skills during his 42-year career as a senior designer and draftsman for Automatic Timing and Controls (ATC) in King of Prussia. It was there where Peter met his loving wife, Carol.
Peter was an active member of the Bridge Community Church (Lansdale) and previously served as a deacon at Family Worship Center (Roxborough). Many who knew him were astonished by his generosity of spirit and willingness to sacrifice his time and talents for the good of others. Peter lived out the Gospel daily in his relationships and his service to others and to His Lord and Savior.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children, Lisa (Bergman) Roberts and husband Dale of Norristown, PA; Carolyn Bergman of Plymouth Meeting, PA; Stephen Bergman and wife Tracy of Schwenksville, PA; and Jonathan Bergman and wife Lisa of Lansdale, PA; along with six grandchildren Benjamin Roberts and wife Olivia, Joshua Roberts and wife Abbey, Andrew Bergman, Maddie (Bergman) Ruch and her husband Joshua, Abigail Bergman and Avery Bergman; and one great granddaughter Savannah Ruch with a sibling expected in December.
The family will host a memorial service at Bridge Community Church on Saturday, 8/20 at 9:30 – 11:00 (983 Allentown Rd, Lansdale, PA 19446).
