Peter Casagrande was my boss for nearly 7 years. While I was serving as Chairman of a KU department, he was the Associate Dean to whom I reported. Pete was more than intelligent; he was wise, and he could laugh. All peace and goodness be to those whom he influenced. -- John Gronbeck-Tedesco

Pete shared his love for Colombian Paso Finos with me. He came to visit my horses several times just to pet them and tell me about how his brother raised Paso Finos. Every time we were together he would have some great riding or horse story. The last time I saw Pete he was in LMH. The first thing he said when I held his hand and he opened his eyes was, "How are your Paso Finos"

Professor Casagrande engaged my attention and challenged my intellect in ways that made my second year of college a turning point in my life. Classical argument essay writing sharpened and clarified my thinking. Reading Thomas Hardy novels broadened my understanding of the world. Professor Casagrande also suggested I would be good at teaching, and a few years later that is indeed the path I followed. He has been the most influential teacher in my transition from adolescence to adulthood. And in teaching my own students how to write in that same argument essay format, I have always shared with them his profound impact on my career. My eternal gratitude to Professor Casagrande, and my sincere condolences to the Casagrande family.
