Peter Denham Cherry, an esteemed Electrical Engineer, passed away on August 19, 2023, in Madison, Wisconsin. Born on August 19, 1942, in London, England, Peter's life was marked by significant contributions to the field of technology and a passion for knowledge and exploration.
Peter's journey as an Electrical Engineer began in the early 1980s while working for Wordplex Corporation in London. It was during this time that he played a pivotal role in the development of a personal computer, showcasing his expertise and innovative mindset. Peter's dedication to his work led him to open Wordplex's first office in California, and his invaluable contributions earned him several patents throughout his career.
In 1987, Peter became a proud U.S. citizen and eventually relocated to Michigan. Embracing new opportunities, he ventured into the automotive industry and found employment with Ford and Visteon. Peter's involvement in numerous successful product launches showcased his unwavering commitment to excellence in his profession.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Peter was known for his love of learning and diverse interests. His voracious appetite for knowledge led him to pursue various hobbies such as reading, exploring current events, engaging with politics, traveling to new destinations, immersing himself in nature's beauty, and enjoying time out on the water while boating.
Described as a quiet and gentle Renaissance man by those who knew him best, Peter's kind demeanor endeared him to all who crossed paths with him. His humble personality shone through his interactions with others and left a lasting impact on their lives.
Peter is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Linda James Cherry. Just days before his passing, they celebrated their silver wedding anniversary together—a poignant milestone symbolizing the enduring love they shared throughout their marriage.
He is also survived by his son Denham (Kris) of Oceanside, CA; stepdaughter Sara Cooley Broschart (Steve) of North Bend, WA; stepson Eric Cooley (Katie) of Hartefeld, PA; sisters Frances Good (Roger) of Billingshurst, United Kingdom, and Dr. Nicola Cherry (Jack) of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
In addition to his cherished family, Peter leaves behind a legacy in the form of his grandchildren: Harper Cooley (11), Brooks (7), Dean (3), and Ann (1). Their presence brought immense joy into his life, and their memories together will forever be cherished by those who survive him.
Peter Denham Cherry's contributions to the field of technology, his thirst for knowledge, and his gentle spirit will be remembered fondly by all whose lives he touched. As we say our final goodbyes, let us celebrate the remarkable life he led and the countless legacies he leaves behind. May he rest in peace.
