Peter J. DeMaria, age 89, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 29, 2024. Born on November 3, 1934, in Brooklyn, New York to Anthony and Maria, first-generation Italian immigrants from Sicily, he carried their legacy of faith, hard work, resilience and dedication throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Maria, his brother Thomas, and his sister Frances.
Pete graduated from high school at the age of sixteen. Staying close to his family, he graduated from Queens College with a Bachelor of Arts, and then received an MBA from New York University. A proud Navy veteran, he served his country with honor before embarking on a distinguished career at American Electric Power. Starting as an Accountant, his exceptional skills and determination saw him rise to the position of Vice Chairman with a seat on the Board of Trustees. He earned his CPA in Canton, Ohio, and his financial acumen was respected by all who worked with him.
He was a devoted husband to Katharine Patricia (Pat) for 62 years and a loving father to his three daughters: Mary, Diane (husband James), and Jeanine. As Papa, he cherished his moments with Joseph (wife Katie), Erika (husband Jordan), Lindsey, and Jacob, always showing his boundless love and pride in their achievements. He recently welcomed a great-grandson, Jace whose visits, photos and FaceTime calls were the highlight of his day.
In his spare time, he loved to travel with his wife and family. He especially loved cruising. He also loved baseball and was an avid Mets fan. In his early years, he tried out as a Walk-on for the Brooklyn Dodgers. He loved music and frequently attended the opera and symphony.
Beyond his professional success, he was deeply committed to his community. He volunteered at many organizations, including Rosemont Center and St. Peter's Church Council, embodying the spirit of service and generosity. His contributions have left a lasting impact on countless lives.
Pete's life was a testament to the values of family, service, and hard work. He will be remembered fondly and missed dearly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Funeral services will be held on November 4th at 11:00 am at St. Joan of Arc, 10700 Liberty Rd, Powell, OH 43065, with burial immediately following at Resurrection Cemetery, 9571 N. High St., Rt. 23 N., Lewis Center, OH.
