Peter Eggimann
August 25, 1937 – January 18, 2024
WENDELL – Peter Eggimann, 86, transitioned from this life on Thursday, January 18, 2024. He was born in Switzerland to the late Emil & Edeltraute Lilli Luci Schranz Eggimann. Peter aspired to be an entrepreneur, and after obtaining his college degree he left his native country to realize this dream in the United States. He joined the United States Marine Corp and worked his way up to Corporal. Peter honorably and proudly served his country for four years in the United States Marine Corp and in doing so, earned an honorable discharge from the Marines, the Swiss Army, and his citizenship. He was naturalized in Wilmington, NC and proudly claimed his Tarheel status and you often heard of how gratified he felt becoming a US citizen.
Upon his discharge from the Marines, he started work at ITT in Raleigh, where he met the woman who was to become his wife of 61 years, Devera. In 1970, he started his first of many businesses, Transmissions Network International (TNI) in Knightdale. In the late 70's he designed a water level alarm system for a friend, and Eggimann and Co was born, where he designed and manufactured Well and Wastewater Control Systems for utility companies, some of which are still being used today. In 1983, he started Electronic Products Design, which employed up to 250 people in the mid to late 80's and was still designing transformers for both commercial applications as well as for the Ham and CB radio enthusiasts. He often said that it's not work if it's what you love to do.
Peter was a volunteer at heart. He was a member of the American Legion Post 148 and the Wendell Masonic Lodge 565. He was a regular blood donor for as long as he was able to. He was a proud member and past president of the North Carolina Society of Engineers. He was PTA President for his daughter's middle school. He joined the boards of Homeowners Associations whenever someone was needed. He will always be remembered for his kind and generous nature and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Emil Eggimann.
He is survived by his wonderful wife of an amazing 61 years, Devera Trogdon Eggiman; his daughter, Michelle Eggiman Glidewell (Tony); his grandson, Travis Glidewell; his younger brother, Max Eggimann (Lynda), and several nieces and nephews.
