Peter R. Labas

Peter Robert Labas, 85, of Higganum, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025. Peter was born December 14, 1939 and was the son of the late Peter and Alice (Urda) Labas. He graduated from New Britain High School in 1957 and from CCSU with his Bachelor Degree in Mathematics. He later earned his Master Degree and 6th year from the University of CT.
Peter taught in the New Britain Public School System for over 40 years, 10 years at Lincoln Middle School and 30 years at New Britain High School. At New Britain High School, he taught mathematics and coached the softball team. He will be remembered for his infectious laugh, unwavering generosity, and constant willingness to help anyone in need. A passionate supporter of all UConn sports, he especially loved cheering on kids-both his own and the many he taught and mentored as students-taking pride in encouraging their success both on and off the field.
Peter is survived by his beloved wife Gladys, his daughters Amy, Cheryl and Cynthia and his son, Robert, and his grandchildren, Isabella, Antonio, Ben and Meghan. He is also survived by his niece, Alicyn Anop, and nephew Peter Labas and great nieces and nephews, Alicia Anop, Tim Anop, Andrew Pulcini and Nicholas Pulcini.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, June 18th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Burritt Hill, 332 Burritt St., New Britain with a Panikhida service at 6:15 p.m. Funeral Liturgy will be held on Thursday, June 19th at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, 305 Washington St., New Britain, followed by burial in the Holy Trinity Orthodox Cemetery, New Britain.
