Peter Mark Lewis of Old Orchard Beach, son of David and Elaine Lewis, passed away on July 2nd, after a difficult struggle with pancreatic cancer. Peter graduated from Deering High School and Brandeis University and was the embodiment of Proverbs 22:1; "A good name is more desirable than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold."
Peter lived a simple life, working initially for the family business on the waterfront and later for LL Bean. He loved hiking in the White Mountains, experiencing nature, and spending time with his wide circle of friends and family. An avid fan of the Three Stooges, Peter never lost his sense of humor. When discussing finances he would say, "Don't worry, I'm taking it with me."
Peter felt a strong connection to Israel and traveled there more than twenty times. While living in Old Orchard Beach, he was an active leader in the local synagogue, and attended Chabad House in Portland. Through his many months of discomfort and pain, his faith gave him strength.
Peter is survived by his parents, sister Jennifer Snyder (Michael), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at Temple Beth El in Portland on July 5th, at 11:00 a.m. followed by a week of mourning at 11 Granite St Scarborough, 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:30-8:00 p.m.

I just found out through the Brandeis Alumni Magazine that Peter passed away last Summer. I am stunned, and deeply saddened. At Brandeis he was the Zionist guy from Maine, who looked, dressed, and talked the part. We became good friends in college, and I regret that we didn´t keep in touch over the decades. But Peter was one of those friends from long ago who, as I reminisce on that younger period in my life, I was lucky to have.

I met Peter when I came to the synagogue in OOB in 2021 and 2022. I got to know him a bit. As others have said, he was indeed a gentle kind soul.

Peter was one of my apartment mates during my senior year at Brandeis. He was the well grounded one who could bring the rest of us down to earth. May his memory be a blessing for all who knew him. He will be missed.

So saddened by the loss of a dear cousin. Peter was a kind and gentle soul with a ready smile. I have many fond childhood memories of our families' time together. Much too early to say goodbye.

Peter worked with me at LLBean, International Customer Service from 1991 through 2002. He was a great joy to have on the team and a wealth of knowledge. Team mates and customers always enjoyed working with Peter. He will be greatly missed by all. May he rest in peace. Mark Maloney

It is with profound sadness that I must say goodbye to a very, very dear friend, Peter Lewis.

Peter - your smile will never fade; your laughter will never be silenced; your warm, welcoming ways will always be cherished. You will always live on in my heart. Farewell my friend.
