Peter Gary Manfre, 77, died on February 8th peacefully at home surrounded by family. Peter, the son of Joseph and Francesca Manfre, was born in Newark, New Jersey and raised in Sayreville, New Jersey.

In 1968, he joined the Marine Corps, where he proudly served his country until his retirement in 1972. During his tenure, he volunteered as a helicopter door gunner in the Vietnam Conflict, and was awarded two Purple Hearts for injuries sustained in combat.

After rehabilitation from his injuries, he went on to have a career in computer technology, at Bell Labs, AT&T and IBM, where he worked until retirement.

Upon his retirement, Peter found immense gratification in the Veteran groups he was a member of : Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 576, Atlanta Vietnam Veterans Association, Johns Creek Veterans Association, American Legion and Vet Buds.

Furthermore, he lived a life of faith and service to God, his family and country. A member of the Catholic faith, Peter served +45 years as an active member of the Knights of Columbus, as well as serving as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church.

Peter was a loving and devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife Mary, his son Adam of Florida, daughter Tiffany (Rob) of Georgia, brother Rosario Manfre (Loretta) and sister Karen Delikat of New Jersey.

Funeral mass will be held Friday, February 13th at 10:30 am at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Johns Creek, Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 576.
