Peter P. Molnar passed away at the age of 92, on Friday morning, January 28, 2022, at his winter home in Frierson, La. with his four children at his bedside.
Born in Norfolk, NY on Nov. 21, 1929, to John Molnar and Magdolna Stucz, he was the 9th of 10 children and is predeceased by all of his siblings (Steve, Andrew, John, Augustus, Joseph, William, George, Emma, Mary).
After graduating from Norfolk high school in 1950 he went to work in Elyria, Ohio as a screw machine operator. After four months on the job, he received the draft notice and returned to New York State for an Army physical in Syracuse. On induction, signed up with the 11th Airborne Division and received parachute training at Fort Campbell Kentucky. After graduation from jump school, he had cold weather training at Camp Drum, NY and then in Fairbanks, Alaska for the duration of the Korean War.
Discharged in 1952, he returned to Ohio and attended the National Radio and Television school in Cleveland and received a certification in electronics repair. On May 2, 1953, Peter and Elizabeth R. Kazmierczak were married in Elyria.
Peter returned to Norfolk in 1956 and found work at the quarry providing stone for the St. Lawrence Seaway construction project. In 1957 he was hired by ALCOA as a security guard. Then in 1958 he was laid off and was hired by General Motors in 1959 once again as plant security.
After retiring in June of 1987, Peter & Elizabeth spent summers in Norfolk and winter in Bossier City La. With the passing of Elizabeth, Aug 10, 2003, he moved to a mobile home on daughter's Xmas tree farm and helped tend the trees. Peter enjoyed being outdoors in his woodlot cutting firewood, trimming trees and always had some building project underway.
The last 3 yrs, dementia slowed Peter and he put down his tools. He was still able to enjoy visitors, good food and sitting in the warm sunshine.
His cremains will be buried in the Norfolk Visitation cemetery next to Elizabeth in July 2022.
