WESTMINSTER - Peter G. Provencial, 93, of Westminster, formerly of Fitchburg, passed away on Monday August 25th , 2025 in the UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, surrounded by his loving family. Peter was born on February 19,1932 in Fitchburg, one of five children born to the late Alfred A. and Rebecca R. (Lorion) Provencial. He went to school at St. Joseph's until grade 8 and entered Fitchburg High School in 1949 in Vocational Trade, graduating in 1952. Later that year, Peter entered the U.S. Army on December 5, 1952, where he completed basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey. He received his orders to the Far East Command in Korea and was honorably discharged on October 19, 1954, ranking E-5-Sergeant. On October 17,1959 Peter married his beloved wife of 55 years, Gloria T. (Maguy). Together they raised four beautiful children. After his service, Peter worked various jobs at tire shops, garages and gas stations. He began his career by offering tire recapping services. He then went to work for the Fitchburg Water Department for 10 years and moved on to the State Department of Public Works for 22 years, until his retirement. He was a D.A.V. of the Korean War and a life member of the Westminster VFW Post 7389. He was also a lifelong member of both the American Legion Post 0429 in Fitchburg as well as Post 0174 in Westminster. He was also a member of St. Edward the Confessor Church in Westminster. Peter is survived by his children, David A. Provencial and his wife Wendy of Westminster, Peter M. Provencial and his wife Colleen of Gardner, Kevin P. Provencial and his wife Lori of Winchendon, and Lisa A. Walter of Westminster; 7 grandchildren, Megan Provencial, Mark Provencial, Jordan Provencial, Cody Walter, Eryn Provencial, Chad Walter and Kelly Provencial. He was predeceased by his wife Gloria in 2014 along with his siblings; Alfred, Joseph "Andy", and Raymond "Bernie" Provencial & Anne Thibeault, as well as his son in law Stanford Walter, Jr. in 2022. Peter enjoyed spending time with family and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow and support them in their many activities and sporting events. "Pep" was their biggest fan. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025 at 11:30 AM at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 10 Church St. Westminster, followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Winchendon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Peter's name to Westminster Fire & Rescue, 11 South Street, Westminster, MA 01473, or Care Central VNA, 34 Pearly Lane, Gardner, MA 01440.
