Capt. Peter Russo, of Gloucester, passed away peacefully at home on December 10, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on October 29, 1964, in Trappeto, Sicily, Peter was the son of the late Leonardo and Caterina (Palazzolo) Russo. In 1974, he immigrated to the United States, embracing his new life with determination and pride, and proudly became a U.S. citizen in 1991. On October 11, 1992, Peter married the love of his life, Keri (Hurst) Russo, with whom he shared over four decades of love, laughter, and four beloved children.
A lifelong fisherman, Peter dedicated his career to the sea, working on and captaining various vessels. Most notably, he was a proud partner of the Miss Trish II, a vessel he operated alongside his brother Vincenzo Russo. Peter's deep connection to the
ocean shaped his life and brought him joy, particularly when sharing these moments with his friends and family.
Peter was also a member of the St. Peter's Club, where his sense of community and camaraderie left a lasting impression on those who knew him.
Peter leaves behind a legacy of love and family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Keri; his cherished children, Katerina and her fiancé, Kurt Baltier, Emily, Megan, and Peter; his siblings, Vincenzo Russo and his wife Jane, Nancy Millefoglie and her husband Alphonse, and Grace Sciortino and her husband Frank. A proud and loving uncle, Peter will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews, Joelle Russo and her wife, Terri Bello, and their children, Isaiah and Maya; Lenny and Michael Russo; Alfonzo Millefoglie and his wife, Carissa; Maximo Millefoglie and Maxine and Salvatore Sciortino.
Peter maintained close relationships with his mother-in-law, Janice Hurst; his brother-in-law, James Hurst, and his partner Lise; and his sister-in-law, Bethany Hurst, along with many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He is predeceased by his parents, Leonardo and Caterina (Palazzolo) Russo; grandparents, Vincenzo and Anunziata (Lucido) Russo, Grazia and Pietro Palazzolo, and his father-in-law, James Hurst.
Peter will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and the love he shared with those fortunate enough to know him.
Visiting hours will be held in the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester, on Sunday, December 15, 2024, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Ann's Church, Holy Family Parish on Monday, December 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Family and close friends are warmly invited to attend. The burial will be held privately.
