Peter "Pete" Sauer, 67, of Marlborough, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
Born in Natick, MA, on July 1, 1958, Peter was a beloved son of Robert H. Sauer Jr & Valerie (Vincent) Sauer of Framingham, MA where he was raised.
A resident of Marlborough for the past 30 years, Peter was active in the Marlborough men’s softball league and led a team for six seasons as the Terrapins team captain.
He had a varied career that started as a young teen at Liam’s Irish Tavern in Framingham, of which he had fond memories, and told many stories.
His professional career began as a supply chain manager in various corporate settings before transitioning in the early 1990s to the IT industry spending the last few years of his career at First Citizens Bank as IT Asset Manager.
Peter had a lifelong love of music and from the early 1970s he attended countless concerts with friends and never got tired of telling of the wild adventures that came with them. During our 15 summers spent in Wells, ME, with our “Westie’s” camp family, while sitting around the campfire listening to the music, he was affectionately known as “Wiki-Pete-ia” for his uncanny ability of knowing the band name or singer, song name, and most often, the release year of the song in question.
Iron Maiden was, without question, his favorite band, and attending their concerts with his daughters was one of his greatest joys!
A car enthusiast from an early age, Peter’s love for the Ford Mustangs began with his first - a red 1968 convertible. His passion ultimately led him to his prized possession - a 2003 Mustang SVT Cobra “The Terminator”.
He also loved fishing and spent two unforgettable years in the early ’80s as an engineer aboard a commercial oyster boat based out of Provincetown, MA., and you guessed it, he told stories from those days—both from the sea and from the shenanigans ashore in P-Town—with much enthusiasm and a lot of laughter.
Peter was an avid reader, a huge history buff, and had a deep knowledge of aviation; we attended many air shows where the Blue Angels or the Thunderbirds were flying. He was a devoted NHRA fan, holding season seats in New Hampshire for many years.
But he had two true passions; first was gardening, one he shared with his daughter, Shaunna - each summer he took great pride in cultivating vibrant gardens that brought colorful flowers, beauty and joy to our home, often drawing compliments from friends and neighbors alike, as well planting a vegetable garden.
The second was his lifelong love for the Boston Red Sox, a bond he especially cherished while watching or attending countless games with his daughter, Olivia.
Peter is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Kendra (Davis) Sauer; his daughter Shaunna Bogan and her husband Jeff, of Fitchburg, MA, his daughter Olivia Sauer of Marlborough, MA and his very much adored grandchildren Jack and Ruby.
He is also survived by his mother, Valerie Sauer; and siblings: Robert Sauer III; Valerie Hughes and her husband John of Natick, MA; Ericha Stearns and her husband John of Medway, MA; Christopher Sauer of Centerville, MA, and his sister in law, Rebecca Chamberlain, of Millville, MA.
He also leaves behind eight nieces and nephews: Kevin and his wife Jackie, Elizabeth and her husband Steve, and Zachary and his wife Grace, along with their children, as well as Ryan, Sean, Emma, Ben and Mason and extended relatives and friends.
Peter is predeceased by his father, Robert H. Sauer Jr., and is now reunited with his cherished dogs Bo, Sandi, Lucy, and Sampson, as well as grand-fur babies Mama and Charlie.
Peter will be remembered for his sense of humor, his gift for storytelling, and most of all, the unwavering love he gave to his family. His loyal companion Tucker remained faithfully by his side until the very end.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, November 17, in the Pickering & Son Upton Funeral Home, 45 Main St. Upton. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Upton.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 P.M. on Sunday, November 16, in the funeral home.
