"Devoted husband and loving father, Owner of Mattatuck Scrap Metal"
Peter E. Tatalias, 82, of Middlebury, entered into the gates of Heaven on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, after a brief illness in the presence of his loving family.
Besides his wife Frances of thirty-one years, he is survived by his son, Michael Tatalias of Middlebury, a sister, Tula Vulopas and her husband Reverend Harry Vulopas of Holyoke, MA, and a brother-in-law, Donald Hornbeck of Tacoma, WA. He was predeceased by his first wife, Carol (Sweetman) Tatalias and his sister, Sandy Hornbeck.
Peter was born in Waterbury on July 25, 1942, son of the late Emanuel and Metaxia (Tragakiss) Tatalias. He grew up in Waterbury and graduated from Crosby High School and attended the University of Connecticut. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era and was stationed in Korea. He was the co-founder and Vice President of Mattatuck Industrial Scrap Metal, Inc., founded in 1970 with his business partner John Constance until present.
Pete loved to plant flowers he had the most amazing green thumb. Pete and Fran enjoyed going to Mohegan Sun to meet friends, and loved going out to great restaruants together. Pete cared deeply about all of his friends, family and employees at Mattatuck Scrap Metal. He was loved and a father figure to everyone. Pete and Fran hosted legendary Thanksgivings for many years which were truly enjoyed by all of Pete's nieces and nephews and their families, Christine, Mark, John, Theresa, Lisa and Mario. He was loved by all and he will truly be missed.
Arrangements: A traditional Greek Orthodox funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, 10:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 937 Chase Parkway, Waterbury. Burial will follow in New Pine Grove Cemetery in Waterbury. Everyone is kindly asked to meet directly at church Tuesday morning. Calling hours will be held Monday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial, The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury.
