Roger E. Mitchell
"Proud Veteran of the U.S. Airforce"
Roger E. Mitchell, 83, of Oakville, was reunited in heaven with his wife on Saturday, January 11, 2025, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. He was the beloved husband to the late E. Joanne (Jefferson) Mitchell.
Roger was born in Waterbury on October 20, 1941, a son of the late Edward and Alice (Rose) Mitchell. After graduating from high school, he proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served his country with honor. Roger was an avid fisherman who could spend hours on the lake. He loved reminiscing with friends and enjoyed traveling with his late wife, exploring destinations around the world, including Sri Lanka, and taking cross-country road trips in their RV. A lifelong tinkerer, Roger loved working on anything he could get his hands on. He also had a great love for food, especially Lebanese cuisine.
Roger leaves behind to cherish his memory his two children, Joseph Mitchell of Watertown, Miriam Mitchell and her fiancé, Robert E. Decelles Jr. of Deltona, FL, and a sister, Sandra Reilly and her husband Patrick of Goshen. He also leaves behind his three grandchildren, Ashley France and her husband Daniel, Tabetha Misencik and her husband Emery "EJ," and Cheyenne Decelles, as well as his three great-grandchildren, Oliver, Adalynn, and Hannah France. Roger will also be greatly missed by his beloved dog, Happy, who was a constant companion and source of joy.
Arrangements: A funeral will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, 8:45 a.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial, the Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, to St. John the Evangelist Church, Holy Disicples Parish in Watertown, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial with full military honors will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Watertown. Calling hours will be held Thursday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Chase Parkway Memorial, the Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury.
