Phil Avritt

Philip Darrin Avritt, age 59, of Tuscaloosa passed away February 12 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL. Born on August 17, 1965, in Pine Hill, Al., Phil attended Catherine Academy in Pine Hill and Shelton State School of Culinary Arts. He was a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing dishes for friends and family. Philip was a plumber in Tuscaloosa and the surrounding area for almost 30 years and was employed by Stillman College as a master plumber and maintenance technician prior to his retirement. He cared for all his friends within the Stillman community and continued to provide them with many years of loyal service as an independent contractor. Phil never met a stranger, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Dannie Avritt and Mabel Campbell Avritt. He is survived by his children, Madison Avritt, Hannah Avritt, and Wesley Avritt, grandchildren Jase Gant and Cade Avritt, brothers Rex Avritt, Camden, Al., and Kevin Avritt, Pine Hill, AL, special nieces, cousins, and other extended family. He is also survived by his very special friend, Cira Woolbright.
A visitation and time of remembrance for Philip will be held Sunday, February 23rd, from 2 to 3 PM in the Welcome Center area of Circlewood Baptist Church. Family and friends will share stories of the laughter, sarcasm, and assistance he shared with so many. A private committal service will be held at Kelly Cemetery in Pine Hill, AL
Phil's family would like to offer special thanks to Cira Woolbright for all the caring, love, and support she gave him over the last nine plus years. She gave him a reason to smile and keep going each and every day.
