Phil Nye Obituary

Visit the Heritage Funeral and Cremation Services - Indian Trail website to view the full obituary.
Phil Lindstrom Nye, of Mint Hill, NC, was called home by the Lord on March 11th at the age of 90.

Phil was born on February 5, 1936, in Robeson County, NC to the late Rudus Dulon and Beatrice Taylor Nye. He was the proud brother of Reggie Nye, Beverly Curtis and Norris Angela Nye, who all preceded him in death.

Phil was a dedicated student in school and graduated as Valedictorian of Orrum High School. He continued his education at Carolina Business College, graduating with a degree in accounting in 1955.

On October 12, 1956 Phil married the love of his life, Pauline "Polly" Sims Nye. Together they built a life centered on faith, family and love. Polly preceded him in death in 2019 after 63 years of marriage.

Phil enjoyed a long and respected career with Lorick Enterprises, Inc., where he served for 45 years as the Corporate Secretary and Treasurer. He took great pride in his work and in the relationships he built throughout his many years with the company.

Phil was a faithful follower of Christ whose life reflected the quiet strength of his faith. He loved the Lord deeply and lived in a way that pointed others toward Him. His kindness, humility, and steady trust in God touched many lives. Phil faithfully attended church throughout his life and joined Hickory Grove Baptist Church in 1998, where he became a devoted and active member.

Over the years he served as a deacon, held various leadership roles, and worked on numerous church committees. He was especially honored to serve two terms as church president. Phil never missed an opportunity to share the love of Christ with others and live his life as an example of that faith.

Phil was a mentor to his son, Phil Jr. and served as an advisor and accountant to his two businesses, Southern Powertrain, Inc. and Diff-Trans Machining, Inc. Phil Jr. preceded his father in death in 2019.

During the late 70s and throughout the 80s, Phil found great joy in dirt track racing with his son, Phil Jr. Backed by a loyal team of family and friends, they became well-known in winners' circles across the Southeast, claiming 52 victories together. The memories made at the track remain treasured, and family and friends still enjoy recounting those stories today.

He is survived by his daughter, Patty Brooks and her husband Tim of Charlotte; his grandchildren, Tim Brooks Jr. and wife Beth of Concord, Megan McGrath and husband Josh of Huntersville, and Travis Nye of Charlotte; and his great-grandson, Grayson Brooks of Concord.

Phil will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, whose faith, humor and love for his family left a lasting impact on all who knew him. Phil's family finds comfort in the promise of Scripture: "In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare for you, I will come back and take you to be with me, so that you also may be where I am." (John 14:2-3) With this assurance, those who loved him hold fast to the hope of a joyful reunion and the peace that comes from a life lived in faithful service.

A service celebrating Phil's life will be held on Monday, March 16th at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, Harris Campus-Chapel (7200 WT Harris Blvd, Charlotte, NC). The family will welcome friends beginning at 10am and the service will begin at 11am. The family will gather privately for the burial at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Phil's favorite mission:
