Philip Barton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lary Funeral Home - Dover-Foxcroft on Mar. 6, 2026.
Jonesport - Philip Wayne Barton, 82, went to be with the Lord on February 26, 2026. Born to Charles and Gloria (Blood) Barton on July 3, 1943, Phil was the third born of seven sons.

In his high school years he played multiple sports and was an exemplary baseball player. He was an avid ping pong player in college. He chose to attend Berkshire Christian College where he met Anna, who he would go on to marry in 1965. Throughout the years of pastoring various churches in Maine and New Hampshire, he touched numerous lives and made countless friends. Many will remember Phil for his years spent roofing and cutting wood in the Dover-Foxcroft area. When he was not working hard to provide for his family, he enjoyed reading, farming, gardening, maple sugaring, and hunting white tailed deer. He will be remembered for his strong faith in Jesus Christ as well as his kindness, generosity, and love for his family and friends. He enjoyed telling stories about being scouted by Major League Baseball recruiters and the days of his high school rivalry with baseball great, Carlton Fisk. His favorite tale to tell was of his children being born 21 years and 21 days apart. He relished the shocked reactions of those he told.

Phil is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anna (Godreau) Barton; daughter, Lisa (Barton) Carr and husband, Ron; son, Peter Barton and wife, Vanessa; brothers, David, Calvin, Ben, and Bob; five grandchildren, Joshua Carr and wife, Tammy, Ron Carr Jr., Savannah, Finnley, and Carter Barton; and great-grandchildren, Adalynn, Alden, and Anthony Carr. He was predeceased by his parents; and brothers, Donald and Freeman Barton.

Per Phil's request, a graveside service for the family will be held at a later date.
