Philip was born on June 6th, 1948 and passed away on
April 15th, 2025 at the age of 76Philip "Phil" Alden Burns, 76, of Eaton Rapids, MI, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. Born on June 6, 1948, in Eaton Rapids, he was the beloved son of Orville and Esta (Wigfield) Burns.
Phil grew up on the family farm just outside of Eaton Rapids, where he developed a deep love for farming, a passion that would shape much of his life. He spent the majority of his career as a dedicated dairy farmer. Later in life, he joined the team at Meijer in Charlotte, MI, where he worked until his retirement in 2010.
A man of many interests, Phil was an avid collector with a particular fondness for model cars, tractors, and nutcrackers. He also enjoyed raising chickens and had a lifelong appreciation for classic western films.
Phil is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Faye Burns; his children, Matt (Carrie) Burns and Jennifer (Brian) Oldham; his cherished granddaughters, Maryann Burns (Eric Seymour) and Brooke Burns; sister, Barbara Basham; brother, David Burns; brother-in-law, Bill Hartel; sister-in-law, Janet Burns; and many extended family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marge Hartel; and brother, Dennis Burns.
A funeral service celebrating Phil's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 18, 2025, at Skinner Funeral Homes, Eaton Rapids Chapel. The family will receive visitors on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, and again one hour prior to the service on Friday.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Sensations Memory Care of Charlotte and Elara Caring Hospice for the compassionate and dedicated care they provided Phil.
