Philip Dale Carnagey was born June 11, 1943 to Charles Walker and Zelma Waddell Carnagey in Houston, Texas. His preschool years were spent on the family farm in southwest Missouri. At the age of five, he moved with his family to La Feria, Texas where his dad operated a Western Auto Store.

He graduated from La Feria High School and Texas A&I (now Texas A&M Kingsville) where he received his master's in history.

Around Blinn he was known as the teacher who made history come alive through the use of stick drawings with challenging exams.

For several years as director of student services he oversaw the UIL program at Blinn. He was a recipient of the teaching excellence award on the Blinn campus. He served First United Methodist Church in various positions including lay leader and delegate to annual conference as well as teaching Sunday School.

On June 14, 1975, he was married to Vernell Schlottmann by her cousin the Rev. Richard Spinn, II at First United Methodist Church of Brenham, They made their home in Brenham, where they raised their three children.

Dale died March 31, 2023 at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in College Station following four months of hospitalizations.

He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law Willie and Nelda Schlottmann and brother-in-law Pete Kroll.
Dale will be remembered for his passion for teaching, love of history, joy of watching sports and collecting sports memorabilia, love of dogs, pride in his two grandsons who are serving in the military, and for his faith which guided every aspect of his life.
