Philip Cox Sr., 71 of Plainville, peacefully left this earthly life on Sunday, August 18, 2024. He is now reunited with his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Darlene (Lemanski) Cox, with whom he shared over 40 years of love, life adventures and countless cruise vacations.
An exceptional family man and devoted car enthusiast, he was born on June 22, 1953, son of the late Frederick Cox, Sr. and Gladys (Feeney) Cox. Raised and educated in New Britain, he earned his Bachelor's Degree from CCSU, and held a successful career at C & A Machine in Newington until his retirement in 2016. Known to always put family first, Phil had a special love for the holiday season, particularly Christmas Eve gatherings with the Cox clan, a day he loved and looked forward to each year. He found joy in attending his grandchildren's sporting events and, the pool shark of the family, engaging in friendly competition with them on his regulation-size billiards table, often coming out on top. His passion for all things NASCAR was evident in his vast collection of memorabilia and his ability to name the make, model, and year of every car at the blink of an eye during televised car auctions. He also found great pleasure in watching The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men with his loyal companion, his dog Bandit by his side. He will be missed each day, leaving the valuable life lessons that he imparted through his own experiences and the gift of making everyone he met feel valued and cherished.
He is survived by his children, Philip D. Cox, Jr. and his wife Karen of Plainville, Kenneth Cox and his wife Cheryl of Johns Island South Carolina, and Angela Houlder of Bristol; his grandchildren, Ty Cox, Christopher Cox, Kealan Cox, Emilie Cox, Delaney Cox, Ramon Peters, Rosalynn Peters and Rajon Houlder. He also leaves his brothers Frederick Cox, Jr (Janice) of Southington, James Cox (Patricia) of Enfield, and his brother in-law who was like a brother to him, Robert Lemanski (Tracy) of New Britain, along with many nieces and nephews that he loved and supported as if they were his own children. He was predeceased by his brother Michael Cox and his wife Janice.
In lieu of flowers, Phil may be remembered with contributions to Plainville Colts Football and Cheer, PO Box 750, Plainville, CT 06062.
Honoring his wishes, his family will celebrate his life privately. The staff at Plainville Funeral Home extends their gratitude to the Cox family for their trust. For online expressions of sympathy, please visit www.PlainvilleFuneralHome.com
