Philip "Phil" Richard Herrold, 38, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away on January 21, 2025, at Memorial Hospital of South Bend.
Philip was born on September 12, 1986, in La Porte, Indiana to Richard G. and Julianna M. (Medema) Herrold.
Surviving are his parents; uncle and aunt, Dr. Robert Earl (Anne) Herrold of Chicago, Illinois; cousins, Dr. Joseph (Dr. Stephanie Groman-Herrold) Herrold of Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Amy (Dr. John McDaid) Herrold of Chicago, Illinois; uncles, Jeffery Medema of Texas, Craig Medema of Texas, and Roger Wilt of Texas; aunt, Rosalyn (Richard) Jones of Texas; and cousins, Shanna Jones, Aaron Medema, Lacie Medema, Craig Medema, Steven Medema, Brandon Medema, Michael Medema, and Kris Tubbs.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Glen and Dorothy Herrold, Charles Medema and Nancy Wilt; aunt, Balinda Sammons; cousins, Ryan Jones, Jessie and Shawn Medema.
Phil was intelligent and graduated 5th in his class at high school and had a 3.6 grade point average at Purdue University. He served as an Eagle Scout, and now a final act of love and giving of life to others thru organ donation. Phil had a love and talent for art and animation which was completely self-taught and originally inspired by his high school art teacher. He thoroughly enjoyed and took great pride in his quite amazing works and displays. Phil was a grounds and maintenance worker at the library. He enjoyed LARP, paintball, airball, music, writing, off-roading, and tinkering with cars and small equipment. He protected, cared, and took joy in time spent with his cat, Gaffer. Phil brought 38 years of joy, caring, consideration and polite reverence to all he knew.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Tim Ahlemeyer and Pastor Bob Vale officiating. Burial will follow at Pinhook Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held from 4 - 8 p.m. on Monday, January 27, 2025, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
