Philip Reeves Hughes, a devoted family man, an esteemed former officer of the Dallas Police Department, and a lifelong enthusiast of sports and outdoor activities, passed away on August 5, 2025, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 76. Born on August 9, 1948, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, to A.R. and Patsy Sue Hughes, Philip's life was one marked by dedication, love, and an unwavering sense of duty.

Philip's journey began in the heart of Arkansas, where his early years were filled with the love and guidance of his parents and siblings, Karen Davis and Keith Hughes. His formative years in Arkadelphia laid the foundation for the remarkable life he would lead. After completing his education, Philip's passion for service led him to join the Dallas Police Department on March 5, 1968. His career with the department was nothing short of exemplary, spanning over four decades. Upon his retirement on June 5, 2012, he had earned 72 commendations, a testament to his bravery, integrity, and the respect he garnered from both his colleagues and the community.

Philip's life was not solely defined by his badge; it was also characterized by the joy he found in the simple pleasures. He loved spending time with his family and was a pillar of strength and love for his son Keven Hughes and daughter Dawn Hughes. His grandchildren, Travis Relf, Taylor Laird, Paige Hughes, Lauren Mason, Alyssa Hughes, and Kennedy Hughes, were the light of his life, and he took immense pride in their every achievement. The joy of family extended to his great-grandchildren, Kaiden Branson, Holden Mason, Parker Laird, Scarlett Ames, Moxen Relf, Hudson Mason, and Scottie Laird, who will carry forward his legacy of kindness and courage.

An avid outdoorsman, Philip reveled in the serenity of fishing, the thrill of boating, and the excitement of snow skiing, and his love for bargain shopping and deal-making was well-known. A true sports enthusiast, Philip's allegiance to the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and Arkansas Razorbacks -provided they were winning-was unwavering. His downtime was just as lively, spent sofa-surfing, watching his favorite police shows like "Blue Bloods" or "NCIS," and delving into the world of science fiction.

Philip's courageous spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him. His absence will be profoundly felt, but the memories he created will forever be cherished. His life was a testament to the power of love, the strength of family, and the honor of service.

The family would like to invite everyone to a reception at Primos, 4861 Bass Pro Drive, Garland, TX 75043, following the service. We would love to hear your stories about our Dad.
