Mr. Philip M. Lunetta, age 67, of New Castle, Delaware passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at Christiana Care Accentcare Hospice Suite, Newark, Delaware.
Born in Bayonne, New Jersey, to the loving parents Madelyn Petroski and Philip E. Lunetta, Phil's life was a journey filled with cherished memories and meaningful connections. He lived in New Jersey, Connecticut, Buffalo, New York, and Mississippi, as his father's career with DuPont led the family to new opportunities. Eventually, the family settled in Delaware, where Philip graduated from Concord High School, Class of 1975, and attended the University of Delaware.
Phil's work life was marked by dedication and compassion. Before retiring, he built a successful career in grocery retail and store management. Starting with overnight stocking crews at the Concord Pathmark as a teenager, he rose to become the Customer Service Manager-Front End at various Pathmark stores in New Castle County. Phil was beloved by both staff and customers, who often shared their creative food dishes with him. As a Shop Steward for the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, he passionately advocated for his co-workers' rights and benefits, leaving a legacy of kindness and fairness.
Phil's passions brought joy to his life and those around him. A devoted fan of Philadelphia sports, he was deeply loyal to for the Eagles and Phillies. His love for these teams accompanied him on trips to his favorite destination, Las Vegas, where he excelled as a skilled poker player. Phil also found joy in horse racing, traveling to numerous racing tracks. His passion for horse racing was matched only by his joy with a winning bet. An accomplished golfer with a 4 handicap, he achieved the rare distinction of scoring two holes-in-one during his lifetime. He delighted in the strategy of chess and, during his time in Western New York, was celebrated as an acclaimed accordion player. Phil's sense of humor was infectious, and he found endless laughter in the slapstick antics of the Three Stooges. He had a true love of nature and the beach body surfing.
Phil's family was the cornerstone of his life. In addition to his late parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Ann E. Lunetta, who passed in 2014, and his cherished companion, Tracy L. Cichocki, who passed in 2021. He is survived by his devoted brother, Vince, (Becky) Lunetta; his loving sister, Jean (Don) Harlan; his brother-in-law, Jim Usilton (Ann); his nephews, Peter Usilton and Nathan Harlan; and his nieces, Christine Harlan, Sarah Harlan, and Tess Lunetta.
