Karen Wood St. John, 67, of Albemarle Plantation, Hertford, NC, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at Duke University Medical Center in Raleigh, NC.

Born on May 11, 1958, in Chester, PA, to the late Brigadier General Milton O. Wood and Barbara Wright Wood, Karen grew up in Wilmington, DE with a strong sense of family, faith, and determination. Karen was a retired financial advisor for M&T Bank, an active member of Trainer United Methodist church, and was a proud member of The Sound's Golf Links Ladies Association. She was a 1976 graduate of Concord High School and was a 1979 graduate of Brandywine College.

She had many interests, but golf was her greatest passion-whether on the course with friends or relaxing at home watching a tournament on television. She also loved sailing, and her time spent on the water, and the joy of simply being outdoors.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas; son, Daniel Quintana and wife, Emily, of Casper, WY; daughter, Jacquelyn Quintana Putnam and husband, Dan, of Dumfries, VA; and two brothers, Thomas D. Wood and wife, Meggan, and John R. Wood. Nothing brought her more joy than her grandchildren, Winter and Dawson Putnam, who were truly "the loves of her life." She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, Tucker, who rarely left her side.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. at Tom and Meggan Wood's residence, 520 Hanover Road, Wilmington, DE 19809. Additionally, another celebration will be held at Albemarle Plantation Club House, 371 Albemarle Boulevard, Hertford, NC 27944, on Saturday, October 11, 2025 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. so that family and friends may come together to celebrate her incredible life.
