Philip (Phil) Joseph Mazzio, 89, of Troy Missouri, peacefully passed away on January 1, 2025, and entered his heavenly home, surrounded with and by the love of family. Phil was born on May 13,1935 in Chicago, Illinois, to Anthony and Ella Mazzio. He graduated high school in 1953 and went on to continue his education at Northwestern University to study biology. On January 15, 1958, Phil went on to serve in the US Army and was attached to the 7th Evac Hospital in Germany. After his return from service he settled down in St. Louis, MO and began a successful career in sales. To later find his true passion in being a speaker and college recruiter for ITT Technical Institute. Phil shared 20 years of marriage with Kathie (Charlie) Triantafyllou, during which time they welcomed and raised their two daughters, Amy and Ashley. Phil's pride and joy were his daughters, and he often spoke of the blessings and memories that came from his time with Kathie.
Phil was a man shaped by his life's experiences, both the good, bad and difficult. Phil carried the weight of past mistakes with grace, using them as a driving force to live a life defined by love and generosity. He gave freely of his heart and money to many charities, and anyone he met in need, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and selflessness. Phil's life was a testament to the belief that it's never too late to change and make a difference, and his memory will be cherished as a beacon of hope and redemption. Phil had a passion for drawing, photography, bowling, golfing and fishing. He would never turn down a card game and loved tic tac toe with his grandkids. Phil had an extraordinary love for animals, with a special bond to his beloved dogs, Simba 1 and Simba 2. His heart was especially touched by Simba 1, who passed away in December of 2020, and he carried that loss deeply. Phil spared no expense when it came to their care, ensuring they had everything they needed and more. Whether it was long adventures or simple trips to grab a bite to eat, he cherished every moment with his dogs. They were more than pets to him-they were family, companions, and loyal friends who brought immeasurable joy to his life. Phil enjoyed going to breakfast every morning with his friends and the occasional trip to the casino. He was a devoted father, grandfather, father in law, uncle, godfather and friend who brought warmth and joy to everyone he met. Family meant everything to Phil, especially in his later years. He treasured every moment spent with his loved ones and cherished every photo and video they shared. Watching him as he gazed at his daughters or grandchildren was a testament to his boundless love, it was always with awe, wonder, delight, and pure joy. He just couldn't get enough, he just soaked it all in. Phil's love and trust extended deeply to his sons-in-laws, Craig (Amy) Willbanks and Travis (Ashley) Lewis, whom he always believed were chosen by God to be the perfect partners for his daughters. He had unwavering faith in their character and the strength they brought to his family. Phil's sense of peace came from knowing his daughters were loved, supported, and cared for by men who who have values and integrity he held dear.
Phil is survived by his two beloved daughters Amy (Craig) Willbanks and Ashley (Travis) Lewis, along with his eight beautiful grandchildren Corbin, Kayden, Easton, Brayson, Preston, Tallen, Owen and Cecelia, his legacy of love. His former spouse, Kathie Triantafyllou. His niece and goddaughter Stephanie (Jeff) Daniels and niece Courtney Ravenscraft. Phil is also survived by his children from a previous marriage, Jeanna, Tony, and Jim Mazzio. Though their journeys took different directions, he held them in his heart. Phil is preceded in death by his father Anthony Mazzio, mother, Ella Mazzio, son from first marriage, Phil Mazzio, sister, Janet, brother, Ronnie.
There will be an intimate family viewing at Pitman Funeral Home, 1545 Wentzville Parkway, Wentzville, MO, on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 1:30 to 2:30 PM. A private lakeside celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
