PJ was born in Spartanburg, SC, a beloved son to Phil and Crystal Shumaker. He is a member of Boiling Springs First Baptist Church and active in Student Ministry there. PJ led with a heart of a servant, always putting others before himself. His smile would brighten anyone's day. He attended Boiling Springs High School as one of the highest-ranking upperclassmen of NJROTC, achieving the rank of Cadet/Senior Chief Petty Officer. PJ served as an employee at Ragan's Short Stop and loved working there. His hobbies included working out at the gym, spending time with friends and he was also a huge car enthusiast.
In addition to his parents, PJ is survived by his sister, Katie Shumaker, and many other family and extended family.
The family will receive friends from 5:30pm to 8:00pm on Friday, October 27, 2023 at Boiling Springs First Baptist Church.
A funeral service to celebrate PJ's life will be held at 12:00pm on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Boiling Springs First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Hank Williams officiating. The graveside service will follow at Good Shepherd Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to Boiling Springs First Baptist Church Student Ministry, 3600 Boiling Springs Road, Boiling Springs, SC 29316, or to Boiling Springs High School NJROTC, 2251 Old Furnace Road, Boiling Springs, SC 29316 (checks payable to Boiling Springs High School).

I´m sorry to hear of your loss, PJ was always such a light whenever he walked into our Wednesday night bible lesson classes. He ALWAYS knew his verses and was always excited to be there. There is no doubt that he´s with the Lord because he needed a soldier for Goodness and Righteousness. Praise the Lord and Praise PJ. I´m so sorry.

Never to give up and do the best I can he always told me he was proud of me and that I was like his little sister he was the light in a dark room all you had to hear was them boots clicking down the hall and we knew he was coming he always did what he could for others and he loved his truck he always inspired me and was my biggest influence I love and miss you bubba

Every moment with Shumaker is special to me, on our first competition in NJROTC freshman year we clicked and we goofed off for a bit in the bus we and every time we would fall asleep in the bus we always take a picture now everyone does it it´s a full out war whenever you sleep in the bus. Shumaker has always been a friend to me in NJROTC he would always make me smile when ever I see him and he would just make my day, he would always make sure that everyone is laughing and smiling before he leave for the day. I am proud to say that he is my friend even more than a friend, a brother

I remember us just having some of the funniest conversations, he'd walk into a room and we already know he got some funny things to say. Always had a story to tell. But his story was a beautiful blooming one, one that shined upon everyone. A walking angel on earth. But now he can be with the other angels walking with the lord himself. Love you PJ
