Philip H. Troxler, of Dover, passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2025. He was 95.
Born December 7, 1929, in Boston, Massachusetts, Philip was the only son of Edith (Bradshaw) and Henry Troxler. He was raised in northern New Jersey and earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Rutgers University.
After a short stint in the Air Force convinced him that military service wasn't for him, he briefly looked into training for missionary work. Eventually he found work with the State of New Jersey". He worked as a code writer and occupational safety and health professional, starting in the cigarette tax bureau. He retired in 1990 after 30 years of service and then worked part-time as a school bus driver until 1992 while also running his own carpet and upholstery cleaning business, which was a part-time operation that he started while working for the state. During his time in New Jersey, he was also active in Toastmasters International.
After moving to Dover in 1992, Philip became a dedicated volunteer at the Modern Maturity Center. Throughout his life he was passionately engaged in progressive politics, actively protesting the Vietnam War and advocating for nuclear disarmament and amnesty issues. He regularly wrote to members of Congress and the Senate to share his opinions and try to influence their votes. He was an avid reader. Political and military history were among his favorite subjects.
Philip is survived by his son, Tim Troxler; daughter-in-law, Airi Piir Troxler; and grandson, Trevor Troxler.
A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, DE. A viewing will take place from 6 to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Red Cross or Doctors Without Borders.
