Philip Winslow Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bowers Funeral Home and Cremation Services - Presque Isle on Aug. 29, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

MAPLETON: Phil was born on July 20, 1929 in Mapleton, ME to Alden Philip and Ethel May (Gregg) Winslow. He passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025 at the age of 96 at the Aroostook House of Comfort in Presque Isle with his daughter Valerie by his side.

He was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Joyce Whyte and Pauline Rockefeller, his brothers Quentin and Vaughn Winslow, his son Steven Philip Winslow, his daughter Rhonda Jo Winslow, and his former wife, Marjorie Marie (Dean) Winslow.

He is survived by his siblings Wilmot (and his wife Jean) Winslow, Richard Winslow, and Don Winslow, his daughters Valerie Jean Winslow and Carol Lee Winslow, his grandchildren, Rebecca Marie Bayrouty Cote, Marnie Winslow Clifford, Megan Marie Clifford, Erik Philip Winslow-Bergman, and Lacey Tyra (Winslow-Bergman) Downey, his many great grandchildren, Brandon, Nicholas, Cooper, Lillian, Hunter, Jackson, Willow, Pepper and Brielle, as well as his long time friend, Don Soucier.

Phil was said to be born with a veil over his head which made him special, and it was apparent to anyone who knew him how special he was. He was an intriguing man who could relay detailed memories and facts from his entire life and throughout history up until mere days before his passing. Some of his most cherished stories to tell involved the antics that he and his brothers would get up to during their childhood as well as fond memories of his own Momma and Daddy. He lived in Mapleton throughout his teenage years where he worked on his family's farm. After marrying his first love, Marge, the two moved to Worcester, MA where they raised their four children. He went on to live and work in a variety of places throughout Maine, Massachusetts and Connecticut before he retired at the age of 62 and returned home to Mapleton where he lived in his cabin "Dark Hollow" which he built himself alongside his father. He spent the rest of his years playing music (he was a self-taught musician who played a variety of instruments,) singing songs, travelling, telling stories, and conversing with whoever would listen. He lived an extremely full life well into his 90s with one of his greatest accomplishments being that he "made it here" in reference to being the ripe old age of (then) 95.

'"I was adventurous and I did things most of the others didn't and I never really regretted it."

Phil will be buried alongside his mother and father in their family plot in Fairmount Cemetery in Presque Isle on Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 11:30am. A Celebration of Life will follow from 12pm-3pm at the Haystack Historical Society located at 1565 Main Street in Mapleton. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bowers Funeral Home in Presque Isle.
