Mapleton: Quintin Akeley, 86, passed away at home on August 21, 2025 after a long illness. He was born in Mapleton November 8, 1938, the son of Clifton and Amy (Lint) Akeley. Quintin was raised by his grandparents; Quintin was married to Leona (Dow) Akeley for 65 years. He went on to raise Pamela's son Adam where they all lived in Mapleton, Maine. Quintin and Leona owned and operated a store in Mapleton, known as Johnny's Market. Quintin bought his dad's poultry farm in Unity, which they worked for a few years.

Quintin was well known for his hard work ethic, over the years he has worked for George Hickey's blacksmith shop, he worked in the tool business as well as working for WAGM radio & tv. He also worked for Glendon Braley for 14 years before retiring. He could be seen driving his tractor all over Aroostook County while doing gardening, mowing, and tilling fields for 23 years. He often talked about how he worked for a few years restoring that old ford tractor. Quintin and his wife along with their grandson Adam built their family home with a lot of hard work, sweat and tears to make the family home in Mapleton what it is today.

He is survived by his Grandson Adam Akeley and his wife Mia of Mapleton, two great grandsons Logan and Gavin Akeley and a great granddaughter Alya Akeley.

He also leaves behind his sisters Judy, Patty, Linda, Jeanie and Susan, as well as two brothers in law Richard Dow and Darrell Dow, a sister-in-law Maureen Keirstead, a great nephew Derek Brown who was always helping Quintin to make sure he had whatever he needed, not only did he do the up keep around the home, he made sure Quintin got his medical care and always got Quintin to his appointments and was a great companion who often sat with Quintin, they both enjoyed each other's company.

The family is grateful that Derek could be such a support for all of them. Quintin also had two very close friends Cathy and Kevin Blalack who became more like family, who continued to be a support for Adam and his family.

He was predeceased by his wife Leona Akeley and their two daughters; an infant Jennifer Akeley and Pamela Akeley, as well as his two brothers George and Johnny.

A graveside service is scheduled for Wednesday, August 27th at 11:00am at Fairmount Cemetery in Presque Isle. Family and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Adam Akeley PO Box 494 Mapleton, ME 04757. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bowers Funeral Home in Presque Isle.
