Phillip "Phil" Clayton Banks, age 84, of Temple passed peacefully in his sleep at his residence on Friday, October 11, 2024. He was born in Jacksonville, Il to parents Gilbert and Mazie (Norton) Banks on March 22, 1940.He graduated from high school in Jacksonville, Il. He went to work as a chef and continued on in that industry for his whole life. He eventually met and married Erin Shaw in Jacksonville, Il and they remained together for 46 years. They would create a lovely family together filled with love and laughter making memories that will last forever with all their family and friends. In 2013 they moved to the Temple area from Illinois and started on a new adventure in Temple.Phil was known for his love of food; he enjoyed cooking for everyone. He was a devoted family man and loved his family most especially his grandchildren and his one great grandchild. Phil was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan. It was also known that in his younger years he was a body builder and was very proud of his accomplishment in this notable sports activity. Phil loved to watch westerns most of us can agree that genre is adored by many people young and old. He enjoyed listening to old Motown music also in his spare time. It is said that he never met a stranger because of his outgoing nature and always was eager to meet people wherever he went. Phil was affiliated with Crossroads Church which he could only attend online due to his health. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Gilbert and Claude Banks and a sister Judy Daniels.Left behind to cherish his memory are his spouse Erin Shaw of Temple, daughters Tazzah and husband Gerald Broadway of Louisiana, Whitney and husband Jeff Shaw-Lewis of Temple, and Kenzie Pearson Of Temple. Phil was blessed to have 5 grandchildren: Gerald and Danielle Broadway, Payton Shaw-Thomas and Elijah Shaw-Lewis, Duncan Lewis and one great-grandchild Zoey Robinson. All those who knew and loved Phillip will miss him deeply but have memories to hold onto and cherish for always. They know that he has been taken to the heavens to a more peaceful place reunited with his loved ones with their arms open to welcome his new home.
