Philip Allen Butterfield, aged 75, passed away on October 6th, 2024, in Dublin, Ohio. Born on April 27, 1949, Philip dedicated over five decades of his life to Sutphen Corporation as a fire truck body builder, balancing his professional commitments with his roles as a farmer and fireman.
Philip graduated from Dublin High School in 1968 and soon after embarked on a career that would span 52 years at the Sutphen Corporation. His work ethic and dedication to craftsmanship were evident in every fire truck that rolled out of the shop, serving communities far and wide. Beyond his professional life, Philip was a devoted husband to his wife, Paula, for over 50 years and a loving father to his sons, Sean and Joseph.
His guidance and wisdom helped shape them into the men they are today. He also cherished his role as a proud papa to his grandchildren, finding joy in their accomplishments and milestones. Philip was known for his love of spending time with his family and friends, whether it was coaching baseball, working out in the yard, traveling, or simply enjoying a good book or a nap. His playful nature often came out in the loving banter with his wife, much to the amusement of those around him.
He is survived by his wife, Paula; sons, Sean (Tina) and Joseph; grandchildren, Hailey (Kyle) Karageanes and Hannah; sisters, Beverly Boseker, Emma (Jack) Rhyan, Vicki McNeal; sister-in-law, Vicki Hartman; brother -in-law, Stanley (Bonnie) Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews. Philip was preceded in death by his parents, William and Freda Butterfield; in-laws, Clyde and Darsene Mansfield; brother, Lewis (Mable) Butterfield; brother-in-law, Gary McNeal; and nephews and niece, Mike, Terry, and Tommy.
A celebration of Philip's life will be held at a later date. His legacy of love, laughter, and resilience will forever be cherished by those who knew him.
