Phillip Hawks Obituary

Phillip Lee Hawks Sr. passed away peacefully on Jan. 4, 2026, after a decades long battle with cancer. Phillip was born in South Korea on July 14, 1965. He lived the majority of his life in Alaska, and graduated from West Valley High School in Fairbanks.
Phillip wore many hats, both the metaphoric ones and the actual baseball caps he sported every day. He was an artist who drew fantastical characters and landscapes, an athlete who gave his everything out on the football and baseball fields, and a drummer in a rock band while he attended college at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
During his life, Phillip enjoyed going fishing, playing video games, eating good food, listening to the best music, and laughing until his stomach hurt. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family. Whether at a holiday get-together, at a large dinner in a restaurant, on the phone sharing stories, or hosting a game night at home, he was happiest in the presence of his family.
Phillip was known for being a loving and devoted husband to his wife, a goofy and dedicated father to his three children, a proud older brother to his three younger siblings, a constant and caring son to his parents, and an honest and reliable presence to his friends.
Phillip will be remembered by those who survive him as a warm and kind man. He smiled often, finding humor and light in even the most dark and trying of times. Though his absence will be felt deeply, he is no longer in pain and is at peace in the arms of his creator.
Celebration of life services will be from 3-6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 16 at Chapel of Chimes Legacy Funeral Homes.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have many great memories of conversations with Phil at the BBQs. Especially about his favorite fishing spot, which I was unable to get the location of from Phil. Tailwinds my Brother.

I went to high school with Phil. We graduated together in the class of 1983. He was a great guy who made the world a better place in his own way. Rest in Peace, Phil. You did good.

I'm truly sorry for your loss of one the kindest people I've ever known. I too grew up in Fairbanks and attended West Valley and played football with Phillip. After graduating I didn't keep in touch and eventually moved on to a military career. His kind and gentle soul will always be with your family and not forgotten by those who have met him. It was truly an honor to have known him.
