Phillip Rodger Hodge 76, of Burley, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025, at Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello following a short illness.

Phil was born in Burley, Idaho, on February 25, 1949, the youngest of six children to Gilbert Lyman Hodge Sr. and Alva Elsie Enoch Hodge. Being the baby of the family can carry a lot of responsibility and Phil took on that responsibility with love and dedication. After the death of his father, Phil lived with Elsie and helped take care of her until her death.

Phil spent his career as a skilled electrician and retired from Ore-Ida Foods. But Phil was never just defined by his profession. Over his lifetime, he cultivated a deep love of music and spent many years as a percussionist with the Magic Philharmonic Orchestra. Phil loved learning new hobbies, whether it was tying flies or rock tumbling and making belt buckles. Phil also enjoyed hunting the hills with his brother Dick and never missed an opportunity to go to the Regatta.

Phil was a lifelong bachelor, but he was never alone. He never met a stranger and he loved keeping up on the news around town. Phil enjoyed his daily stops to the coffee shops around Burley to visit with the staff and customers about any topic under the sun. Phil was very close to his siblings and would go out of his way to help a relative or friend and always made it a point to check in on family members just to see how they were doing. Phil was the favorite uncle to dozens of nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents and older siblings and brothers-in-law: June (Leo) Bill, Laura "Sharon" (Jerry) Cannon, Dian Hodge and infant sister Saundra Beth Hodge, and several nieces and nephews. Phil is survived by his sister-in-law Gloria Hodge, and nieces and nephews including Mitch Hodge, Morgan Hodge, and Gina Hodge; Steven (Stella) Bill, Mathew (Helen) Bill, Rachel Bill Kelsey, and Deborah Bill Valdez; Mark Cannon, Kevin (Terri) Cannon, and Jerri (Curtis) Crebar.

Phil's impact on the people he encountered will not soon be forgotten. We will miss the conversations, humor, and compassion of our beloved Uncle Phil. Our world is that much fuller because we knew him and that much emptier now that he is gone.

Viewing will be held for family and friends 6 – 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2025 at Morrison Payne Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2025 at Pleasant View Cemetery 1645 E. 16th St. in Burley. Services are under the direction of Morrison Payne Funeral Home.
