Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gaydos Funeral Home on Jan. 2, 2026.
Phillip Larry Kennedy, Age 79, of Vanceburg, Ky. Passed away Wednesday morning December 31, 2025 at his home after an extended illness. Phil, being of a blended family, was 1 of 13 children was born in Garrison, Ky. On Thanksgiving Day November 28, 1946 to the late Earl Wayne and Gladys Irene Carver Bentley Kennedy.

Phil worked at the Steel Mill in Portsmouth, Ohio during the summer months to help his parents with his college education. Getting a good education was important to Phil. He graduated from Morehead State University in 1968 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Education. He started his career in Olive Hill, Kentucky with North East Area Development District as a head start director serving the seven surrounding counties including Lewis County. He also served as assistant to Lewis County Judge Executive Jackie Ray Cooper. He then worked for Buffalo Trace in Maysville for 14 years. From there Phil came back to Vanceburg and served as Superintendent of the Electric Plant Board of the City of Vanceburg from which he retired. Phil was a member of the Vanceburg Christian Church.

Phil's greatest success in his life was his family, whom he deeply loved and adored especially his 2 granddaughters, Laira Kate and Colleen Elizabeth Kennedy. Besides his granddaughters he also leaves the LOVE of his life, his wife of 51 years Linda Curtis Kennedy and their 2 sons- Joe Kennedy and Mike Kennedy and wife (Kristy) all of Vanceburg, Ky.

Two sisters- Judy Kennedy Christian- Columbus, Ohio, and Pauline 'Polly' Kennedy of Cincinnati, Ohio. One sister-in-law- Judy Curtis of Vanceburg, Ky. Several nieces and nephews also survive who will mourn his passing.

Preceded in death beside his parents were siblings- Eldene Kennedy Spriggs, Glenn Kennedy, Gene Kennedy, Hazel Bentley Overstreet, Marilyn Bentley Reedy, Fred Bentley, Beecher Bentley, Jack Bentley, and Mary Lou Kennedy. Mother and Father-in law- James (Jim) and Irene Lykins Curtis. Sister-in-law- Sharon Curtis and brother-in-law- Gary Curtis who was a very dear friend since high school, and neighbor, personal shopper, and caregiver until his death in September of this year. Great nephew- Parker Cramer.

Phil often joked around to many of his friends saying that he often recalled growing up hearing his father say to his mother, "Gladys get in here your kids and my kids are beating up our kids." For all that knew Phil being a friend or family have certainly been touched by his great sense of humor, kindness, generosity, intelligence, wisdom and love of "a good game of golf". We have been blessed and to know him was to love. He certainly will be missed.
